Lord Rama: Lord Rama is one of the most revered deities in Hinduism and is the seventh avataar of Lord Vishnu. He is known for his virtues of righteousness, courage, and devotion, and is considered a symbol of ideal human behavior and the victory of good over evil.

Mata Sita: Mata Sita is the wife of Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. She is regarded as an epitome of feminine virtues and is worshipped as a goddess by many.

Hanuman: Hanuman is a revered deity in Hinduism, known for his unwavering devotion to Lord Rama and his incredible strength, symbolizing courage, loyalty, and selflessness.

Sugriva: Sugriva is the younger brother of Vali, whom he succeeded as ruler of the vanara kingdom of Kishkindha. As the king of the vanaras, Sugriva aided Rama in his quest to liberate his wife Sita from captivity at the hands of the rakshasa king Ravana.

The city of Ayodhya was adorned with decorations, and its people rejoiced in celebration on the auspicious occasion of Lord Rama’s Pattabhishekam (coronation ceremony). Not only the residents of Ayodhya but also the Devatas (celestial beings) and revered Sages came to participate in this grand and divine event.

Following the conclusion of the Pattabhishekam ceremony, the Gods bestowed upon Rama heavenly gifts of immense beauty and significance. Lord Indra, the king of the Devas, presented the Lord with a stunning pearl necklace. Rama, in his infinite wisdom, chose to entrust the necklace to Sita, his beloved wife, allowing her to gift it to whomever she deemed deserving.

Sita surveyed the assembly, and her eyes fell upon Hanuman, who knelt humbly at Rama’s feet, lost in deep contemplation. With a loving gesture, she beckoned Hanuman and placed the exquisite pearl necklace in his hands. The entire gathering couldn’t help but marvel at Hanuman’s extraordinary fortune to receive such a divine gift from none other than the Mother of the Universe herself. It was a blessing beyond measure!

Hanuman accepted the necklace with the utmost devotion and humility, cradling it gently in his hands. He then moved to a quiet corner of the assembly, where he began to do something that left everyone astonished. He broke the necklace and meticulously picked up each pearl, placed it in his mouth, bit into it, chewed it, and then spat it out.

A wave of anger and confusion swept through the assembly. How could Hanuman, who was known for his unwavering devotion, commit such an act, especially with a gift from Sita? Sugriva, the monkey king, was about to charge at Hanuman, but Rama intervened. He explained that Hanuman was never one to make a mistake without a reason. Rama called Hanuman to his side and asked him to clarify his actions, which seemed inexplicable to everyone present.

With tears in his eyes and an overflowing heart of devotion, Hanuman began, “Lord, when anything emanates from You or Janaki Mata, it holds immeasurable value and significance. I gazed intently at each pearl, hoping to catch a glimpse of You, but I could not see Your divine presence within them. I brought them to my ears, longing to hear the echo of Your name, but it remained silent. Even when I held the pearls to my nose, I could not sense the fragrant tulasi and chandan that adorn You. My fingers did not perceive the soft touch of Your divine feet. Finally, I resorted to tasting each pearl, hoping to experience the essence of Your sweet name, but it left me disappointed. If something cannot awaken my five senses to Your presence, no matter how valuable it may seem, it is useless to me, and I cast it aside.”

The entire assembly was left awestruck by Hanuman’s words. Sugriva stood up and inquired what made Hanuman believe that he could find Rama in lifeless pearls. Hanuman turned to Sugriva and responded, “If Lord Rama and Sita can reside within this body, composed of bones, flesh, blood, and skin, why could they not dwell within these beautiful, priceless pearls?”

To affirm his statement, Hanuman, with great devotion, tore open his own chest. There, in the inner sanctuary of his heart, seated on the throne of unwavering devotion, everyone present caught a glimpse of Rama and Sita. This was the true Pattabhishekam, the ultimate fulfillment! The entire assembly was left speechless, and Lord Rama approached Hanuman, expressing that there was nothing in all the worlds that He could give to Hanuman in return for his unparalleled devotion and service. All that He could offer was Himself.

Rama embraced Hanuman tightly, transcending all notions of duality, leading them both to a state of absolute oneness.

In the end, the Pattabhishekam ceremony in Ayodhya was not just about the coronation of Lord Rama; it was a profound testament to the unwavering devotion of Hanuman. Through his extraordinary act, Hanuman taught everyone that true devotion goes beyond external symbols and rituals, reaching the depths of the heart where the divine truly resides. The union between Lord Rama and Hanuman, beyond material gifts, exemplified the ultimate fulfillment of spiritual connection, transcending all boundaries and leading them to a state of absolute oneness, where love and devotion reigned supreme.
